Cheap Flights from North America

Moya Cutts Posted At 2004/02/17 07:53)
Cheap flights to Tanzania is something I get asked about frequently. Can any of our returned volunteers give any suggestions. In 2003, most North American volunteers got flights via the UK. Some got flights through www.travelcuts.com. Have any of our North American returned volunteers got any other recommendations? Cheers. Moya biggrin.gif

Hi Moya and Everyone,

Last year my group rang several airlines and we managed to get a discount on Emirates. There were 7 of us on the flight but we really pushed the charity angle. We got flights from Australia for AUS$1765+ tax as opposed to the orginal quoted price of AUS$2300. I also have heard of invidual volunteers ringing airlines directly and getting good discounts.

We also contacted travel agents but their profit margin is so small (around AUS$50) that they can't give decent discounts.

We managed to get 2 flights paid for via STA Travel trust.

My advice to everyone is to be cheeky and ring around asking for discounts. Push that you are doing this for charity purposes.

Good luck,
Anne

I notice Moya mentioned travel cuts, but I thought I would add that I just purchased my tickets today through travel cuts and Emirates was actually cheaper than British Airways. I got my return ticket for 2400 CAD from Toronto (to London to Dubai) to Dar Es Salaam.
She said travel cuts just made a new deal with Emirates. it might be worth looking into.
Anyone starting on July 26 - Look foward to meeting you.

Sincerely Dan

Hi all!

Sorry this is a tardy response, but here goes anyway. I have traveled to Tanzania twice now. The first time I paid just under $1300 US (and I was gone for 3 months), on JustFares.com. This last time, I flew through Onetravel.com and paid about $1250 US. I had no problems either time. One thing to keep in mind, though, is both these companies are consolidators, so the ticket is non-refundable and you cannot change the dates if you want to stay longer or return earlier.

I met a girl on my flight this last time who used Airfareplanet.com. She said that she paid $1150 US.

For those of you who haven't bought your tickets...good luck with finding good prices! And to all of you who will be volunteering this year....have fun...I am so jealous!
