go back to Kit - what to take Abi Izzard Posted at 2007/08/31 10:34
Hi Abi firstly the sleeping bag- i went the same time you are going last year and only took a sleeping bag with me and that was fine, you have some sheets supplied for you or u can buy 1 if you needed for only $US 7.50. the first 6 weeks will be hotish so you will probably only use the sheets but then the last 6 weeks it will be quite cool because the rainy season will start so you will want something warmer. Also remember a light weight rain jacket with a hood for the long walk in the rain to the orphanage, a umberella may be usefull too if you can fit a little one in your luggage. With the adapters the compound has one type of power points but when you are travelling afterwards they have all different ones so it would be best to get all of them. There wasnt any at the compound when i was there as i would think most people would take theirs with them after they leave. At the compound there was quite a bit of left over sunscreen from previous vols. I think you could get sunscreen from mwanza but you may have to search a little or even ask at one of the hotels and they would know where to get it from most probably. Hope this helps a little.
