Our Volunteer ProgrammesApplicants must:
Is this programme is for me?All of VolunteerAfrica’s partner organisations see the needs of women and children as their main priorities. VolunteerAfrica is currently supporting one partner organisation in Tanzania:
Community Development – HAPA in Singida What you get for this:Before leaving home you will be provided with comprehensive pre-departure support from our Volunteer Coordinator and through our extensive Travel Manuals. Once in Tanzania you will be provided with a four day course introducing you to the language and culture of Tanzania. At the end of the course you will travel with your fellow volunteers to Tabora or Singida. In Singida volunteers will live in one of the villages being supported by the programme. As a group you will prepare your own meals, using food purchased on a weekly basis at the market in town. In addition to working on the projects you will have plenty of time to get involved in Tanzanian life and culture. In Tabora the smaller volunteer teams will live in specially rented houses. You will need to budget for some spending money (for luxury items, stamps, etc.) and the cost of travelling in Tanzania after you have finished in the village (with places like Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro and some of the best safari parks in the world its worth allowing some extra time at the end). You also will be expected to provide your own personal kit (i.e. sleeping bag, boots, backpack) and to pay for vaccinations and anti-malarial tablets (recommendations will be provided nearer the time). Notes:
Tanzania is a large country with lots of things in it to explore once you have finished your time in Singida. VolunteerAfrica strongly recommends that volunteers on the 4 week programme allow at least 1 extra week for travelling, whilst volunteers on the longer programmes allow at least 2 extra weeks. |
